The average American will work at 12 different jobs throughout their career. Taking jobs that help you build skills and experience that align with your dream career is a great goal to have as you start out in the workforce. 

Here are some factors to consider when applying for your first job:

  1. Experience to be Earned- Is this job a steppingstone to the career you are building experience and skills for? 
  2. Salary and Benefits (Healthcare, 401K Retirement, PTO, etc.) – How will they impact your lifestyle?
  3. Your Working Environment- What is the company’s culture? How is your interacting with co-workers and customers? How is the environment like? How will these affect my happiness and development?

Which type of employment fits my needs?

Green Star Full Time Employment means a 40-hour or more workweek and employees receive benefits.

Green Star Part Time Employment varies by business and agency. You might have some part-time employees who work 15 hours a week and others who work 25 hours. This role will accommodate with your academic schedule.  

Green Star Seasonal employees work for a business that’s only open at certain times throughout the year or during busy times. 

Green Star Temporary employees (“temps”) work temporarily to fill in gaps in a workforce.

Green Star Internships are programs where students or other trainees work for a period of time at a business, generally to gain experience, college credit or skills and they aren’t always paid.

Green Star An Apprenticeship is a paid job where apprentices spend at least 20% of their working hours completing classroom-based learning leading to a nationally recognized qualification.

Login to your Career Highways and select “Find a Job” in the top menu

STEP 2- Enter in Search Fields

For Career opportunities, you can search by Keyword, Company, City, State, and Career Cluster to narrow your search.

STEP 3- Review the Opportunities

Scroll through the different opportunities and select the title of the job to learn more about the opportunity.

STEP 4- Create a Career Highway

Once you find a job that aligns with what you’re looking for, you can select the “Add to my Career Highways” button to save the opportunity, view your Careerh Highway: how you fit in, what is needed from you to be ready to apply, and opportunities in the future to advance your career
