Skills for Chicago and Career Highways Launch Veteran Career Pathways Initiative
Skills for Chicago has received a $225,000 grant from the Richard L. Duchossois Foundation to launch the first phase of a military-to-civilian career pathways initiative powered by Career Highways. The initiative is designed to help veterans translate military experience into civilian skills, career pathways, and employment opportunities through a structured, skills-based workforce development model.
The program will leverage Career Highways technology to translate military occupations into a comprehensive skills framework, map veterans to high-demand civilian careers, identify skill gaps, and provide targeted upskilling pathways. Veterans will also gain access to AI-powered career tools, including resume development, career path visualization, interview preparation, and direct connections to employers seeking skilled talent.
The initiative builds on Skills for Chicago’s proven success using skills-based hiring and career pathway technology to improve job fit and hiring outcomes. By extending these capabilities to veterans, the organization aims to create a scalable solution that strengthens veteran workforce transitions while helping employers better identify, understand, and hire veteran talent. Additional phases are planned as future funding opportunities become available.
